LAHORE: On Monday, Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister, urged better ties with his neighboring country and voiced excitement about seeing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon.
In an interview with Indian journalist Barkha Dutt, the PML-N president made these comments in advance of the much awaited Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Islamabad, which Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is expected to attend.
“I have consistently advocated for positive relations with India,” Nawaz declared, voicing optimism that a chance to rekindle the relationship existed.
“It would have been fantastic if Prime Minister Narendra Modi had gone to the SCO summit as well. I sincerely hope that in the not-too-distant future, we will get to sit together.
