Speaking on Radio 4’s Today show, he pledged to “do what it takes” to protect people’s online safety, especially that of children.
Also, he declared that there was “no firm, peer-reviewed evidence” at the moment and called for more research on the effects of technology, including social media and cellphones, on youth.
Kyle has sent a “letter of strategic intent” outlining his intentions to the Online Safety Act (OSA) regulator, Ofcom, which is taking on additional authority.
While applauding what it described as a “important marker for Ofcom to be bolder,” the Molly Rose Foundation, a campaign group, stated that this should not overshadow the need to improve the OSA.
