Numerous tornadoes were reported in Florida, where strong winds toppled homes and flipped cars. According to data from FlightAware, more than 1,300 flights into or out of the US were canceled on Tuesday. The weather forced Vice President Kamala Harris’s plane to take a detour. According to a representative for Mrs. Harris, “unfavorable weather” forced her jet from Atlanta to land in Virginia instead of the nearby state of Maryland on her trip back to Washington, DC. More than 630,000 homes in the eastern US, ranging from Florida to New York State, lacked electricity as of Tuesday night. Governor Ron DeSantis issued a state of emergency for 49 counties in Florida due to storms that have destroyed power lines and blown off roofs. In all of Florida, twelve tornadoes were reported.
