After winning 6-3 7-5, the 22-year-old will make his maiden appearance in the world’s top 100 on Monday.
Kartal lost three straight service games with no sign of success in sight after controlling her higher-ranked opponent in the middle of the match, but she eventually found a way to serve it out.
Sramkova, ranked 136th in the world, misfired for her 39th unintentional mistake of the match, giving the British player her historic triumph on the first of her two championship points.
Kartal claimed, “I’ve played some of my best tennis this week, had some of my best wins,” following his elimination from qualification and one set loss in the Monastir event.
“I feel like I’ve improved with every game. I made a great effort to move past the situation and the result.”
The women were participating in their first-ever final at this level, and Kartal had informed them beforehand that the winner would be the one who handled the situation the best.
She lost her serve in the first game due to an early wobble, but she thereafter shown her superior tactical sense to maintain control.
Before her serve began to falter, Kartal won the last three games of the first set and took a 4-1 lead in the second.
