Customers in Khulna are extremely distressed as the cost of eggs has suddenly skyrocketed above the government-mandated rates.
Local markets are reporting egg prices of Tk 13.50 a piece, exceeding Tk 11.87, the government-mandated price, in spite of official directions to the contrary. As a result, the price that customers are paying for each egg is now Tk 1.53 higher than it was previously.
Concerns over potential price manipulation by traders using syndicates have been voiced by customers. Although many people are doubtful that eggs will be sold at the government-set pricing as of Wednesday, the Director General of Consumer Rights has made this announcement.
Parvez, an egg merchant from Paikgachha upazila’s Chadkhali hamlet, clarified that it is not practicable for traders to sell eggs at the government-fixed price because the manufacturing expenses are significantly higher.
