Since last year, there have been no commercial negotiations between Islamabad and New Delhi, according to Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
The top Indian ambassador said that neither party [India nor Pakistan] had put up a proposal to restore commerce in response to a reporter’s inquiry at the Indian embassy in Washington.
He emphasized that trade between India and its neighboring country has never ceased. “Their [Pakistani] government took the step to stop trade in 2019.”
“Our concern was that they never granted us MFN [Most Favoured Nation] status, even though we granted it to them,” Jaishankar said.
“Every nation has the sovereign right to decide for itself what its obligations and responsibilities abroad are. We can each have our own opinions on it,” he said.
