After the European Union denied access to the Annexures that accompanied Pakistan’s application for Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, India filed an appeal with the European Court of Justice, according to an Indian news source quoted by The News.
According to the EU, this kind of access would damage its ties with Islamabad internationally.
According to information currently available, the EU rejected the “confirmatory application” that the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority’s (APEDA) attorney filed on March 27. APEDA has since been brought before the European Court of Justice.
The article states that India has requested the paperwork Pakistan has provided proving the origin of basmati in the disputed areas. The annexures contain the documentation.
