MELBOURNE: The fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) saw a historic milestone, breaking the previous attendance record for an Australian Test match, according to GeoSuper.
The historic arena was crowded with 373,691 spectators over five days, breaking the previous record of 350,534, which had been in place since 1937, when Australia played England under the famous Sir Donald Bradman.
51,371 spectators had entered the gates for the first session of the final day of the highly anticipated Test match versus India, and more were anticipated later in the afternoon.
The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC), the organization in charge of the MCG, was taken aback by the fact that this number eclipsed the 43,867 spectators that showed up on day four.
