NEW DELHI: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced on Friday that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to the United States from February 12 to 13 to meet with President Donald Trump.
Only a few weeks after Trump returned to the White House for his second term, he extended an invitation for the visit. Additionally, it comes as Modi’s administration is under fire for how it handled the 104 Indian immigrants that Washington deported this week as part of Trump’s immigration policy.
On January 27, Trump spoke with Modi about immigration and emphasized the need for India to purchase more security equipment made in the United States and to have equitable bilateral trade relations.
The two leaders also talked about getting together soon, and “that is the commitment and the promise.”
