SEOUL: The floor leader of South Korea’s major opposition party announced Tuesday that the party intends to “immediately” take action to remove acting President Han Duck-soo from office, only days after ousting President Yoon Suk Yeol.
After Han delayed approving legislation to begin a special counsel investigation into President Yoon Suk Yeol’s unsuccessful attempt to establish martial law, Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party (DP), made the announcement.
The suspended Yoon, who was impeached on December 14 and is currently awaiting a Constitutional Court review on whether to remove him or reinstate him, has been replaced by PM Han.
According to Park, “Acting President Han made it obvious at today’s cabinet meeting that he would not greenlight the special prosecution law.”
