A former powerful defense minister was found guilty of corruption, embezzlement, money laundering, and unlawful enrichment and sentenced to five years in prison by a Guinean court.
Prior to the army taking control, Mohamed Diané was President Alpha Condé’s defense minister from 2015 until 2021.
In addition, he was forced to pay a $58.5 million (£46 million) fine, and the state would seize his property and bank accounts in the eastern city of Kankan and the capital Conakry.
Because the assets’ origin could not be justified, the judge ordered that they be seized.
Since the military junta began a crusade against corruption in the nation in May 2022, Diané has been detained.
The junta considered combating corruption one of its top priorities after seizing power.
