According to Rishi Sunak, the Conservatives would substitute “high quality apprenticeships” for “under-performing” university courses, which will improve their financial situation and offer more prospects.
Speaking on Wednesday in Cornwall, he declared: “A future Conservative government will boldly close down underperforming university degrees that are failing our youth and use the money saved to fund one hundred thousand new, first-rate apprenticeships.”
It’s the most effective approach to changing people’s lives and distributing opportunity. The most effective method of providing our youth with a safe future.”
He quoted “independent studies” to say that while university “is great” for many people, “it’s not the only option” for one in five degree holders who would have been better off financially without going to school and one in three graduates who work in non-graduate positions.
“Improving education is the closest thing we have to a silver bullet for boosting life chances,” Mr. Sunak said when introducing the program. Therefore, it is unfair that certain university courses defraud young people.
“Apprenticeships are significantly better quality now than they were under Labour, thanks to our approach. And now, by ending the use of bogus degrees and providing our youth with the job prospects and financial stability they require, we will produce 100,000 additional.
