ISLAMABAD The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) stated on Wednesday that the submarine cable that was causing the services to deteriorate was expected to be repaired by early October, meaning that the current internet outages throughout the nation are probably going to last for more than a month.
Netizens and the information technology (IT) industry were highly critical of the internet disruptions, blaming the current slowdown and restricted connectivity on the alleged testing of an internet firewall to control social media. The firewall is designed to filter out unwanted content from reaching a larger audience.
The PTA last week attributed the internet outage to “two of the seven international submarine cables connecting Pakistan internationally” being malfunctioning.
