MULTAN: At Multan’s Nishtar Hospital, a four-member fact-finding team has discovered potentially fatal practices in the dialysis ward procedures that could spread HIV among patients who are already near death.
Standard operating procedures (SOPs), such as routine HIV and hepatitis screening and the use of sterile equipment for every patient, have been scandalously neglected by hospital management, according to a report by an investigating panel.
The province Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique and Secretary of Health Punjab instructed the fact-finding committee to investigate the HIV outbreak, which was attributed to the dialysis unit staff at Nishtar Hospital Multan.
