The foreign minister of Iran stated on Monday that the United States cannot advocate for moderation while endorsing Israel’s attack in Gaza. He also called for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict in the enclave.
Hossein Amirabdollahian, in a televised joint press conference with his Indian counterpart in Tehran, urged on US authorities “not to tie the security and national interests of the US to the fate of Israel’s prime minister who is falling”.
Tehran charges the US of supporting what Iran regards as Israeli crimes in Gaza, while the Islamic Republic of Palestine supports Hamas in its conflict with Israel.
According to Amirabdollahian, the Houthis will keep attacking the Red Sea “as long as the genocide in the Gaza war continues”.
“Senior officials in Yemen’s Sanaa [Houthi leaders] told us that as long as the genocide in the Gaza war continues, they will take action to prevent the movement of Israeli ships or ships heading to Tel Aviv,” he stated.
The minister did add, though, that Tehran has received assurances from the Houthis that “they will not create any disruption in maritime security”.
