President Masoud Pezeshkian was present at a ceremony in Tehran on Sunday when Iran unveiled a new ballistic missile that it claimed could fly 1,700 kilometers.
Images of the missile, known as Etemad, or “trust” in Persian, were shown on state television. The program noted the missile’s range and described it as “the most recent ballistic missile” constructed by the Iranian defense ministry.
The development of Iran’s ballistic missile program has alarmed Western nations, who claim it is destabilizing the Middle East. Iran’s arch-enemy Israel, which it struck twice last year as the Gaza conflict erupted, can be reached by its missiles, including the most recent model.
