Karachi: In spite of opposition from Sindh, the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) has authorized water supply to the Cholistan Canal System project, bringing irrigated agriculture to the region.
An area that is set up to supply water to crops artificially, such as by spraying or redirecting streams, is known as irrigated agriculture.
For the Cholistan project, Secretary Irsa Jahanzab Khan also granted the Punjab government a certificate of water availability.
According to IRSA sources, Punjab will build the Cholistan Canal, which will branch off the Sutlej River at Sulemanki Headworks after approval, giving them access to 450,000 acres of water.
Ehsan Leghari, a Sindh member of the authority, wrote a dissenting comment voicing his disapproval of the approval.
