Fakhar Zaman, the left-handed opener for Pakistan, has denied “baseless reports” that he was preparing to retire following an injury he suffered in the Champions Trophy opening match.
Fakhar was thus disqualified from the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, despite making his eagerly anticipated comeback to the national side in the recently concluded home tri-nation ODI series.
Fakhar suffered the injury while fielding during Pakistan’s February 19 encounter against New Zealand in Karachi. He had to leave the field for medical assessment after tripping and falling awkwardly in the game’s first over.
He briefly returned but then left again, raising questions about his fitness. An oblique tear was confirmed by later examinations.
