Nightlife specialists warn that if we continue on our current pace, we would run out of clubs by 2030 as we are now losing one every two days.
According to Sacha Lord, Greater Manchester’s night-time economy consultant, “the main reason we’re seeing nightclubs close is that midweek nights have completely fallen away and it’s mainly down to the cost of living.”
When the owner of the largest club chain in the UK announced a number of closures earlier this month, that was also the explanation provided. Rekom, the company behind well-known club brands Pryzm and Atik, announced that it will be closing 17 locations due to students cutting back on club nights due to the rising cost of living.
Mr. Lord notes that before to the epidemic, students would frequently go out on the town throughout the week. However, in an effort to save money, they are now hosting home parties as a result of rising rent and food costs.
