Following a nighttime crackdown by law enforcement agencies (LEAs), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced a “temporary suspension” of its “do-or-die” protest, causing residents of Islamabad to wake up to an uneasy calm on Wednesday.
Roads and schools were closed, cellphone services were suspended, and members of the party founded by Imran Khan clashed with law enforcement during the demonstration, which started three days ago on November 24.
“We are announcing the temporary suspension of our peaceful protest in light of the government’s brutality and plans to turn the federal capital into a slaughterhouse for unarmed citizens,” the PTI’s central media cell said in a press release.
