According to Israel, eight of the 26 prisoners who Hamas was supposed to free under the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza have died.
The Palestinian armed organization sent Israel a list overnight with details on the hostages’ condition, government spokesperson David Mencer told reporters.
He did not reveal their names. “The list from Hamas matches Israel’s intelligence, so I can share with you that… eight have been killed by Hamas,” he said. “The families have been informed of the situation of their relatives.”
Since the ceasefire started on January 19, more than 290 Palestinian detainees detained in Israeli jails have already been released alive in return for seven women.
