The Israeli military reports that a combined operation with the Shin Bet security service has discovered the body of an Israeli hostage who was taken captive by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Itay Svirsky, 38, who was abducted from Kibbutz Be’eri during Hamas’ invasion of Israel on October 7, 2023, was “murdered in captivity by his captors,” according to a statement.
In January, Hamas claimed that Israeli airstrikes had murdered Svirsky and another hostage, 53-year-old Yossi Sharabi.
The military had said that an investigation had determined that six other hostages who were discovered dead in a tunnel in Gaza in August were shot by Hamas “close” to the time of an Israeli airstrike.
