Israel will contest the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court for former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Judges last week issued warrants for the two men and Mohammed Deif, the military commander of Hamas, stating that there were good reasons to suspect the three individuals of committing crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza.
Netanyahu and Gallant, as well as the Israeli government, vehemently denied the charges.
The prime minister’s office announced on Wednesday that it had communicated its “intention to appeal to the court along with a demand to delay implementation of the arrest warrants” to the ICC.
It restated Israel’s denials of the ICC’s jurisdiction and the validity of the warrants against Gallant and Netanyahu.
