38 people were killed in early Friday Israeli raids on the Syrian city of Aleppo, including five members of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, according to two security sources.
Israel launched attacks against Aleppo, resulting in the deaths of several military and civilian personnel, the Syrian Defense Ministry stated earlier on Friday.
Around 1:45 a.m. local time, the ministry released a statement stating that multiple localities in the countryside of Aleppo were the target of Israeli bombings.
The ministry said that the airstrikes were timed to coincide with drone assaults from Idlib and western rural Aleppo, which were carried out by “terrorist organizations” and targeted civilians in Aleppo and its environs.
The government did not, however, provide an exact death toll or indicate whether the casualties were brought on by militant group attacks or Israeli airstrikes.
“The aggression resulted in the martyrdom and injury of a number of civilians and military personnel and caused material losses to public and private property,” added the statement.
The Israeli army remained silent.
