On the second day of an intensified military campaign in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, Israeli forces killed at least eighteen Palestinians, according to Hamas, endangering truce negotiations.
This week, US-backed mediators from Qatar and Egypt stepped up their efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement that would free Israeli hostages in Gaza and free Palestinian detainees detained in Israel.
Israeli tanks continued to advance into some Gaza City neighborhoods on Tuesday, including Shejaia, Sabra, and Tel Al-Hawa. Residents of these areas had reported some of the most intense fighting they had seen since the beginning of the conflict the day before.
