During his resignation ceremony on Wednesday, Israel’s departing head of military intelligence accepted responsibility for his nation’s shortcomings in defending its border on October 7.
Along with several other senior Israeli commanders, Major General Aharon Haliva, a 38-year veteran of the military, announced his resignation in April, citing his inability to predict and prevent the bloodiest attack in Israel’s history.
Haliva stated at the ceremony on Wednesday, “The failure of the intelligence corps was my fault,” and he demanded a national probe “in order to study” and “understand deeply” the causes of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
