Colonel “A,” the top intelligence officer in IDF Southern Command, is retiring from his position, with the potential of being compelled to retire from the IDF entirely, the IDF announced on Thursday.
According to jpost, the announcement comes less than a day after IDF Intelligence Analysis Chief Brig. Gen. Amit Saar announced his resignation in June, following the publication of the IDF report into Israeli intelligence’s failure to prevent the Hamas massacre on October 7. Surprisingly, the IDF stated that the colonel was leaving for personal reasons, without mentioning the failure of October 7.
Rather, the IDF stated that he is retiring due to an inappropriate affair with a female intelligence officer.
Despite the IDF’s disclosure of the inappropriate romance, the officer may have been forced to quit as a result of his role in the October 7 fiasco, given that the results of the anticipated hard-hitting IDF review are expected in June.
Senior officials, whether married or not, should not have relationships with lower officers, according to IDF standards.
The IDF stated that the junior officer was close to his age, not a young officer, and did not work directly in his bureau, but there was no word on whether or where she might have worked within the IDF Southern Command.
