After morning prayers on Friday (April 5) in the Jerusalem compound of the al-Aqsa Mosque, Israeli police used tear gas to scatter worshippers.
On the final Friday of Ramadan, worshippers were attending dawn prayers (Fajr) at al-Aqsa, which is considered to be the third-holiest place in Islam.
Thousands of worshippers attended the prayers, according to a statement from the Israeli police unit, however there were a few brief instances of incitements, and police responded accordingly.
The mosque is situated atop a hill that is considered the Temple Mount by Jews, who see it as their holiest place.
Following the commencement of Israel’s assault in Gaza on October 7, Palestinian worshippers said that Israeli officials had restricted their access to al-Aqsa.
