The United Nations warned that Israel’s massive military operation in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday “risks seriously deepening the already catastrophic situation” in the Palestinian territories.
UN Human Rights Office spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani stated in a statement that “Israel, as the occupying power, must abide by its obligations under international law.”
In a massive operation including helicopters and drones, Israeli forces attacked the occupied West Bank, including the flashpoint cities of Jenin and Tulkarm, killing at least nine Palestinians, according to Palestinian authorities. One of the biggest attacks in the West Bank in months, it came after a string of smaller raids in the region in recent weeks as Israeli soldiers attempted to disband Palestinian militant groups.
