Nearly a month has passed since the Israeli Knesset decided to prohibit UNRWA from conducting operations in the West Bank and Gaza, which are both under Israeli occupation. Despite strong criticism from the world community and some of Israel’s allies, the Israeli government has proceeded with its implementation.
The United Nations, which is the primary organization providing aid to Gaza, has condemned the action, noting that it will have “devastating consequences.” The UNRWA ban is a fantastic self-interest for Israel, even though it will surely make Palestinian misery worse.
This is because, in accordance with the United Nations’ mandate, it will provide the two and a half million Palestine refugees in Gaza and the West Bank with a new degree of international protection.
