Police believe that Tom Voyce, a former rugby player for England, has passed away after going missing in a flood-prone area of Northumberland during Storm Darragh.
When the 43-year-old failed to come home following an evening out with pals on Sunday lunchtime, Northumbria Police started their search.
It is believed that Mr. Voyce tried to drive his car across Abberwick Ford, close to Alnwick, but the river current carried him along.
According to a police spokesperson, “it is believed in his attempts to escape he has been swept away and tragically died.” Officers have already recovered the vehicle.
Drones, dog handlers, the National Police Air Service, and specialist officers from the Northumbria Police’s Marine Section were also used in the hunt.
