LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz remarked on Friday that she worked extremely hard for 12 to 13 years to establish herself in the traditionally male-dominated Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
“My presence here is a message to mothers, daughters, and sisters that if you want to do something, being a woman is not an impediment to achieving your goals,” Maryam stated while speaking at an International Women’s Day event in Lahore.
The newly appointed chief minister stated a desire for a woman to succeed her in Punjab and for women to be elected to the position of chief executive in other provinces as well. Women were performing admirably in all aspects of life, she remarked.
Maryam took the oath of office on February 26, shortly after being elected as the province’s first female chief minister.
The PML-N scion, who became Pakistan’s first female chief minister, won the election with 220 votes in the province parliament.
Addressing the ceremony, the Punjab Chief Minister stated that women encounter a variety of issues, including harassment, and that she, too, became an iron woman as a result of similar experiences. Maryam made it clear that harassment of women was her “red line”.
She also decried the growth in incidences of physical abuse, which has become a regular occurrence among the many evils in society. The chief minister also criticised the limits imposed on women who complained about unfairness.
