The National People’s Power (NPP) alliance quickly won a landslide victory in legislative elections after Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s stunning victory in the September presidential election.
He and his supporters hope that this year marks a sea change for the nation, which is still recovering from years of mismanagement and a severe economic catastrophe.
They have little leeway, though, to fulfill promises made to voters, who have high hopes for the new administration.
