Thirteen people have been arrested by Italian officials who are thought to be involved in a smuggling network that illegally transports migrants from South Asia and the Middle East into Italy and then to France.
On October 21, 2024, arrests took place in a number of places, including Bologna, Rome, and Milan.
The suspects, who are from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, are accused of money laundering and involvement in a criminal organization.
According to investigators, the organization was primarily concerned with overseeing the marine transportation of undocumented migrants and had activities in Italy, France, and Greece in addition to its bases in Turkey and Iraq.
These migrants were mostly transported to the Mediterranean coastlines from a variety of nations, including Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, and Lebanon.
