Jake Gyllenhaal said in a recent SiriusXM radio interview with Howard Stern that he auditioned for several significant roles in the past and was nearly booked.
The Road House actor has revealed that he auditioned for Baz Luhrmann’s film musical Moulin Rouge.
The role eventually went to Ewan McGregor, however Gyllenhaal stated that the three actors nominated for the role were McGregor, the late Heath Ledger, and himself.
Gyllenhaal claimed that he was disappointed by the rejection because he was so close to landing the role, but Luhrmann eventually cast him in the Playlist in July 2022.
Gyllenhaal stated, “In the end, you have to learn to say, ‘There’s another one.'” For example, I could go in and audition for another one. I will acquire something else. That’s the thing. “You keep that attitude.”
Stern then pointed to Gyllenhaal’s failed role as Batman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, saying, “But I imagine that disappointment after putting on the Batman suit…” The host of the radio show went on, “Then who calls you to say, ‘No, they gave it to Christian [Bale]’ after all that prep and everything you put into it?”
