The Japanese government has announced a new $3.1 million donation to help Pakistan’s efforts to eradicate polio, with a focus on purchasing necessary oral vaccines. With the help of this money, Pakistan will be able to purchase more than 20.22 million doses to support its 2025 polio immunization programs.
With 26 cases from Balochistan, 16 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15 from Sindh, and one from each of Punjab and Islamabad, Pakistan has reported 59 polio infections so far this year.
Japan has been supporting the polio eradication effort since 1996, and this additional financing is part of that support, the Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme (PPEP) said in a statement released today.
Through UNICEF, Japan has contributed over $242.2 million so far, including grants and loans.
