Jay Johnston, who previously performed as Jimmy Pesto, the owner of a pizzeria, in the animated series Bob’s Burgers, is among the more than 1,400 individuals accused of offenses connected to the violence that occurred in Washington, DC, on January 6, 2021.
The 55-year-old was seen on camera assisting rioters and pushing back against police during the disturbance in the lower west tunnel that leads to the Capitol.
During the turmoil, the tunnel was the scene of some of the bloodiest confrontations between police personnel and protesters.
According to an FBI agent’s affidavit, Johnston, a Los Angeles resident, was “close to the entrance to the tunnel, turned back and signalled for other rioters to come towards the entrance”.
The affidavit further states that during the attack, he transferred a stolen police shield to other rioters while holding it over his head.
According to a court document that goes along with Johnston’s guilty deal, he recorded rioters breaking over barricades and forcing police officers to flee using his cellphone.
