ISLAMABAD According to sources who spoke to Geo News on Tuesday, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has established a seven-member constitutional bench headed by Justice Amin-ud-din Khan in response to the 26th Amendment, which was ratified by parliament last month.
A majority of the members voted in favor of the constitutional bench, which was formed by a 7-5 split decision by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi-led judicial panel.
According to sources, the ruling was opposed by CJP Afridi, the seniormost justices, Justices Mansoor Ali Shah and Muneeb Akhtar, as well as opposition PTI members Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz.
Judges from every province are represented on the constitutional bench, including Justices Amin-ud-Din and Ayesha Malik of Punjab, Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Hassan Azhar Rizvi of Sindh, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan from Balochistan and Justice Musarrat Hilali from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
