Yahya Afridi, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, chaired the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) meeting on Saturday, which approved a six-month extension for the justices who had previously been appointed to the Supreme Court’s constitutional benches.
In accordance with the 26th Amendment, the JCP established a seven-member constitutional bench last month under Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan in a 7-5 split ruling for a two-month tenure.
According to a statement released by the Supreme Court, Islamabad, CJP Afridi presided over the two consecutive sessions of the highest court’s judicial body today.
