Lead engineer Gareth Jenkins of Horizon provider Fujitsu testified before the public investigation into the IT disaster that, although there were flaws with the pilots for both Horizon systems, he was aware of systemic problems that had been resolved.
He said, in response to questions from the inquiry’s lawyer, Jason Beer KC, that he didn’t think Horizon’s integrity aligned with the scope and severity of the system’s reported flaws.
That applied to both the subsequent Horizon Online system and the original program, which is now referred to as “legacy Horizon,” he said.
From 1996 until 2022, Mr. Jenkins worked for Fujitsu on a paid basis.
In the landmark 2010 trial of Seema Misra, a pregnant prisoner, he testified.
According to the allegations, Mr. Jenkins neglected to reveal at the time that there was a known fault in the accounting system that could have cleared her name and stopped further charges.
