In an effort to put pressure on the coalition government to help the public, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Naib Emir Liaqat Baloch said on Monday that the religio-political party would undertake a nationwide shutter-down strike on August 28.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad today, Baloch stated that the trader community has unanimously decided to observe a nationwide strike in opposition to rising electricity costs, inflation, and the imposition of heavy taxes.
He threatened to plunge the nation into chaos if the administration tried to put an end to the strike.
The politician recalled that his party had conversations with the federal government and conducted a 14-day protest in Rawalpindi. The JI’s proposals for relief for the country devastated by inflation were accepted by the ministers, who then signed an accord.
