Numerous private schools in Peshawar declared their shutdown today, citing the unstable political situation in the city as the cause. There were also reports of some mobile phone network outages.
Administrators notified parents of the closures via WhatsApp messaging for pupils enrolled in the affected schools.
Schools in the Hayatabad, Nasir Bagh Road, and University Road sectors were affected by the closures.
The decision to close the schools was attributed by the proprietors to worries about the city’s security and public safety. An further factor in the disturbance was the partial mobile network outage.
In Jamrud, a three-day jirga is scheduled to start today. The power to negotiate solutions to security-related issues with the Jirga has been granted to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandhipur.
