Following Humza Yousaf’s announcement of his resignation, Mr. McCormick’s decision not to seek a leadership challenge leaves Mr. Swinney as the only formal contender.
Last Monday, Mr. Yousaf announced his resignation, citing his decision to sever ties with the Scottish Green Party over the power-sharing arrangement.
As soon as Mr. McCormick announced that he had received the 100 nominations from 20 branches required to challenge Mr. Swinney, there were early rumors of a showdown on Sunday.
However, the party activist said in a statement provided to News that he had a “lengthy and fruitful conversation” with Mr. Swinney and that he had “met the threshold set.”
