The government should “back down” and “be big enough” to admit that they “made a mistake” by imposing an inheritance tax on certain farmers, according to Jeremy Clarkson, who spoke to Sky News.
The former Top Gear host, who had previously stated that avoiding inheritance tax was a major factor in his decision to purchase a farm in the Cotswolds, joined thousands of people in Westminster to express disapproval of the government’s choice.
In central London, an estimated 13,000 farmers from all over the United Kingdom braved the cold weather to demand that plans to impose a 20% inheritance tax on farms valued at more than £1 million starting in April 2026 be abandoned.
Farmers have reacted negatively to Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ announcement of the policy in last month’s budget.
