ISLAMABAD: On Saturday, the federal capital’s anti-terrorist court (ATC) granted senior journalist Matiullah Jan’s bail request, allowing him to be released from custody in a terrorism and drug case.
The case was presided over by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, who granted bail in exchange for a Rs 10,000 bond.
The development follows the journalist’s arrest by the Islamabad Police at the E-9 checkpoint two days prior for allegedly assaulting the officers, stealing their weapons, threatening them, and being under the influence of drugs. The substance “ice” was also allegedly found in his car.
Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 353 (assault or criminal force to dissuade public servant from discharge) of the CrPC are included in the FIR filed against him.
