On Saturday, JUI-F released their proposed draft of constitutional revisions, which included 24 changes to the text. The special parliamentary committee was tasked with reviewing the document.
Known as the “26th Constitutional Amendment,” the proposed law was designed to suggest a three-year term limit for Pakistan’s top justice.
Despite intense attempts to gather the required support, the government was unable to propose the legislation over the weekend, even though it was originally slated to be tabled in the National Assembly and Senate last month.
On September 15, a special meeting of a parliamentary committee was held to address the specifics of the proposed revisions, which had been mostly kept under wraps. To the dismay of many, it was intended to rally the opposition.
