The federal government is under pressure from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) to enact the Madrasah Registration Bill by December 8.
After President Asif Zardari rejected the law and sent it to the government with complaints, the party issued its warning. Next week, the National Assembly is anticipated to hold an extraordinary session to discuss the matter.
According to JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghouri, the party has been made aware of global pressure against the registration of madrasahs, or religious institutions. The tension was heightened when, in a recent meeting with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman voiced his worries over the President’s veto.
