In the 16th minute, Alvarez, a former Manchester City striker, gave Diego Simeone’s team the lead with a magnificent curling attempt from the left side of the box, his fourth Champions League goal of the year.
Three minutes prior to halftime, Griezmann scored the first of his two goals after Marcos Llorente lofted a pass into the box for the Frenchman to nod home thanks to some persistent work from Alvarez.
Six minutes after the restart, Clement Lenglet gave the visitors a lifeline when he unceremoniously hauled down David Strelec. The striker then sent Jan Oblak the wrong way with the ensuing penalty.
However, Griezmann scored his second goal six minutes later with a scuffed shot that swerved over visiting keeper Dominik Takac’s knee.
