KARACHI: The port city’s crime rate for the month of June was shockingly high, according to a study released by the Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) of Sindh.
According to the study, Karachi received reports of 5,288 crimes in June, an astounding number.
A staggering 2,792 motorcycles were reported stolen among the crimes that were reported. Just 196 of these stolen motorcycles were found by the police, with 564 of them having been taken from civilians at gunpoint.
In addition, during the course of 30 days, 135 automobiles were taken and 24 vehicles were stolen in various parts of the city.
Only eighty vehicles could be successfully recovered.
Additionally, only 18 cell phones were found by authorities after 1,433 persons were victims of mobile phone theft.
According to the CPLC report, 40 individuals were killed in violence in different parts of Karachi in June, and six extortion cases were reported in the city alone.
Thankfully, the report also stated that no instances of “bank robbery/dacoity” or “kidnapping for ransom” had been reported.
The alarming data presented in the June CPLC report highlights the worsening situation of street crime in Karachi, the nation’s financial center.
In the first five months of this year, up to 6,000 convicts were moved to Karachi Central Jail.
