ISLAMABAD: On Monday, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar of the Supreme Court asked what stage civilian trials would start from if cases were moved from a military court to an anti-terrorism court (ATC).
The question was brought up when a constitutional bench of the highest court heard intra-court arguments against the military trial of civilians.
Civil society lawyer Faisal Siddiqi presented arguments to the bench, which was presided over by Justice Amin Uddin Khan and included Justice Mazhar, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Hassan Azhar Naqvi, and Justice Naeem Afghan. Siddiqi argued that the main question was not how 105 suspects were chosen for military trials, but rather whether the law permitted military trials at all.
